Engines
Diesel drives are a popular and reliable option, with their low combustion and their ability to both heat the water while sailing and charge the batteries. Electric drives, however, are a more recent development in boat propulsion. Tests show that these units are capable of providing more than 6 hours of autonomous sailing and the potential to increase this range with solar panels. Furthermore, electric propulsion allows access to areas restricted to combustion engines, making electric drives an increasingly popular choice - for example, the Balaton in Hungary.
